SWAYsters love a chance to go out and have a good time—and if it helps a good cause, well, that’s even better! AIDS Walk A-Go-Go is just the chance for everyone to do so, at their favorite watering hole. This year, 16 Valley bars are participating in a myriad of ways, and all YOU have to do is go out and paint the town AIDS ribbon red! What is AWAGG, you ask? This second annual event is a one-night-only fundraiser and awareness campaign for AIDS Walk Phoenix. This year, the date is set for Saturday, September 11th. Each bar that has a hand in AWAGG agrees to raise funds for AIDS Walk. How they do it is up to each specific bar. Some will donate a percentage of daily sales, others will designate the money earned from a drink or shot special, and others will donate the tips from a show, or money from a raffle. All of these different ways of fundraising work well for different bar patrons. Those who wouldn’t normally purchase alcohol (and we do love you designated drivers!) can tip big or buy raffle tickets. And if you’re the type who usually avoids shots but enjoys a brewski, a portion of that purchase could go to AIDS Walk!
Funds raised by AIDS Walk go to the Aunt Rita’s Foundation, which benefits 19 local HIV/AIDS agencies equally. If you’re interested in doing more, like, say, walking, running, (or making your pooch do it), check out the AIDS Walk Phoenix website.
